# Sam Spratt — The LUCI Archive

> samspratt.com is the living archive of LUCI by American artist Sam Spratt (b. 1988; trained at the Savannah College of Art and Design; lives and works in New York City): ten 1/1 digital paintings paired with written psalms, 50 Skulls, 256 Player observations, and 613 Masks — a participatory mythology in which collectors' words are embedded in the artwork and artwork is made from their words.

LUCI is named after the australopithecine ancestor who fell from a tree in Afar, Ethiopia. The work began in 2021 as a self-portrait refracted through others and has grown into a shared narrative: paintings scaffold participation; the blockchain preserves the pieces of identity and relation that close the distance between artist and audience. The mythology is syncretic — woven from the Hebrew Bible, Kabbalah, Greek myth, Stoic philosophy, Japanese aesthetics, Egyptian and Mesoamerican traditions, ecology and mycology, alchemy, cryptography, game theory, and more (16 source traditions, see /universe).
